Vintage Design
Subject in Patina Regula, which we owe to Louis (1855-1919) and François (1857-1930) Moreau, two brothers also known for their Pendulum Ornaments and Mantel Trimmings.
The artists represented here a Shepherdess sitting on a rocky seat. Her position recalls that of an Amazon. Crossed, her two legs are placed on the same side: on the left. Her long hair is pulled up in a Bohemian style bun, in a disheveled spirit accentuated by the presence of a scarf tied on the nape of her neck. The young worker is dressed in a long dress with sleeves rolled up on the top of her arms. Her hands, equipped with needles, are devoted to knitting, and her feet are bare: the Pastourelle gives herself a moment of relative respite.
A sheep, classically wearing a bell around her neck, accompanies the young lady. The animal with the woolly fleece is isolated from her flock, probably because it is ”Le Préfréré”, a title that can be read on the golden plate nailed to the base.
The latter is Circular and Molded. It is made of Wood, imitating a Red Marble.
As a guarantee of authenticity, the signature of the Sculptors is affixed at the bottom of the Stage. One will also note the presence of a Seal attesting to the French manufacture of this work, which has certainly made a stopover in a Vendean jewelry store, as suggested by the label ”Cameo d’Or” glued to the back.
The artists share with us the privileged relationship between this Sheep and his Guardian, who is working to transform the fruit of his labor into a warm garment.
